Liverpool has a world of sporting successes to share with you. And that sporting journey starts with two of Europe’s most famous football teams, Liverpool and Everton. Liverpool is England’s most successful football club, winning more major trophies than any other team – including not one, not two, but five European Trophies. It’s no wonder then that the 2006 FA Cup Winners have quite a history to share with you. So no visit to Liverpool is complete without a trip to Anfield to take in the museum and tour centre.
Not to be outdone, Everton boasts a proud history in equal measure. As founder members of the Football League, with five FA Cups and a European Cup Winners’ Cup to their credit, there’s a magic about Everton’s Goodison Park that will stay with you long after you leave.
If it’s horse racing that gets your heart pounding, then there’s a great place to head; Aintree. If you’re lucky enough to visit in April you can catch the world’s most famous race, The John Smith’s Grand National, first hand. Visit any other time of year and you can relive the thrill and excitement of the thundering hooves on The Grand National Experience. Don’t forget to get a glimpse of the winner’s stables. If your sporting passion extends beyond football and horse racing, then there’s plenty more going on outside the pitch and track. Liverpool invests heavily in tennis development programmes and plays host to many world-class players at the annual International Tennis Tournament. But if you fancy grabbing a spot of action for yourself, why not try your hand at go karting or paintballing.
Liverpool's restaurant and bar scene has blossomed over recent years and new venues are opening all the time. Whatever your taste and budget, the choice is huge.
Choose to spend a lazy afternoon people watching from a waterfront café, get dressed to impress for a meal at an exclusive restaurant or you can even dine in an old police station. Alternatively, why not choose them all. For authentic Chinese, Japanese and even Russian cuisine, the city has much to offer. If you fancy Modern European food, the award winning '60 Hope Street' is a must. There's also a real buzz surrounding the city's many new bars and restaurants; 'Room', 'Alma de Santiago' and 'Korova'.
In a city as vibrant and energetic as Liverpool, you’d expect to find the nightlife to match. And you won’t be disappointed – there are over 250 bars and clubs alone. For a chilled out evening the options are endless; sink into a leather sofa inside one of the designer-chic lounge bars around Concert Square or enjoy real ale at the Victorian pub ‘The Brewery Tap’. The party doesn’t end until you say because you can stay out all night if you want to. For great music and dancing, try heading to the world famous ‘Babycream’ on the Albert Dock or to the famous Cavern Club.
