The World Firefighter Games which will take place in Liverpool between August 24th and September 2nd, 2008. The event is expected to attract over 5,000 competitors from across the world and is expected to be one of the biggest events on the Capital of Culture programme.
It has been described as a mini Olympics for fire fighters and incorporates an exciting programme of over 70 different events which include football, table tennis, golf, fishing, triathlon, dragon boat racing, track and field, chess, boxing and a Firehouse Cook-Off. The blue riband event is the Toughest Firefighter Alive competition which will really test the stamina and strength of the competitors to the very extreme.
The majority of events will take place in and around the new 10,000-seater Liverpool Arena, with the city's World Heritage waterfront acting as the perfect backdrop for the Games. An Olympic-style opening ceremony will officially launch the Games, with live music and entertainment.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service would like to involve the whole community in their forthcoming celebrations; and as part of this we have organized a competition for local school children to design a mascot to represent the World Fire Fighter Games 2008. The mascot should incorporate the spirit of the games namely sport, the Capital of Culture and the Fire Service. The winning child will have their design made into a mascot which will be used to cheer the competitors on throughout the games.
There will also be some fantastic prizes with the winner’s class obtaining tickets for the whole class and their parents and teacher to attend the opening ceremony. The class will also be invited to a fire experience day at the Training & Development Academy where they can experience first hand the work of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.
We would therefore like to invite your school to take part in the competition.
